Conclusion:
RingCentral is an excellent value for your money, especially if you pay for a year in advance. RingCentral gives you 700 free combined pages compared to many online fax services that only give you 300 combined pages. RingCentral has local fax numbers in 49 states, (800) numbers for a $15 one-time fee, and (866), (877), and (888) toll-free numbers available for no additional charge. It's easy to send and receive faxes, and RingCentral's fax quality is clear and easy to read. RingCentral's customer service reps answered all our questions correctly but put us on hold a few times to find the correct answers. RingCentral offers a 30-day free trial.
*Note: RingCentral has a sister service, eXtremeFax, that uses the same fax technology as RingCentral and has better pricing and lower overage page rates. If you've signed up for a free trial before with either RingCentral or eXtremeFax, you can't receive a free trial with the other service.
Fax Number Options
RingCentral provides local numbers in 49 states as well as Washington D.C. When choosing your local number, you select both your desired area code and city. RingCentral offers (800) numbers for a one-time fee of $15, but (866), (877), and (888) toll-free numbers are all available at no added charge. RingCentral also allows you to port numbers for free.
Sending and Receiving Faxes
During testing, we found RingCentral's faxes to be clearly transmitted and easy to read. RingCentral allows you to attach as many documents as you wish to a single fax as long as you keep them under 5MB in size. They also allow you to send a single fax to as many recipients as you desire. RingCentral does not allow you to preview a fax. They do allow you to schedule delivery of a fax for a later time than when the fax was created. RingCentral allows you to store up to 200 messages for as long as you wish in the online interface which greatly exceeds typical fax services' online fax storage of 30 days. RingCentral provides a blocked/allowed phone call list which keeps you from being charged for faxes from numbers you have selected to block. RingCentral's online interface is Mac-compatible. The service also allows you to send faxes from an unlimited number of email addresses and receive faxes to 30 email addresses.
Pricing
RingCentral's Fax 700 plan provides 700 combined pages per month to send or recieve and costs $8.89 per month. This equates to a little over one cent per page, which is way cheaper than the price per page for most services we've reviewed. Additionally, RingCentral offers an annual prepayment discount price of $85.32 per year. This represents a savings of 20% and comes out to an effective $7.11 per month. If you send or recieve faxes over your 700 fax allotment, you'll be charged overage fees of six cents per page. This is cheaper than typical rates of 10 cents per page for overages. RingCentral also offers a free trial period that lasts 30 days.
Customer Support
RingCentral offers searchable FAQ's, email support, and phone support. Phone customer support is available 24/7. During testing, we found customer service wait times to take about five minutes. Customer support reps managed to answer all of our questions correctly, but they did have to put us on hold in order to retrieve certain answers.
