Conclusion:

MetroFax offers a great online fax service for a low monthly cost. They give you 500 combined pages for only $7.95 per month, which is one of the best-value plans offered by an Internet fax service. MetroFax offers local fax numbers in all 50 states and has (866), (877), and (888) toll-free numbers available for an extra $1 per month. It is simple to send and receive faxes, and MetroFax's fax quality is standard. MetroFax's customer support is highly knowledgeable. MetroFax now offers a 30-day free trial after having previously offered only your second month free.

Fax Number Options

MetroFax offers local numbers in all 50 states and Washington D.C. When choosing your local number, you can select your number by both area code and city. They offer (866), (877), and (888) toll-free numbers for an additional $1 per month. For $24.95, you can port a number into the MetroFax system, but you may not port out numbers originally provided by MetroFax.

Sending and Receiving Faxes

During testing, we found the quality of a fax to be average. You may attach up to 10 documents at once when sending a fax as long as the total size is under 20 MB. You may send each fax to as many as 50 recipients at once. You cannot preview a fax before it is sent or schedule delivery of a fax for a later date. Faxes are stored for one year, which is a signficantly longer time period than the 30 days many services offer. MetroFax allows you to create a blocked number list, but you must contact billing in order to have blocked faxes removed from your monthly page allotment. MetroFax is Mac-compatible. MetroFax allows you to send faxes from and receive faxes at up to 10 email addresses.

Pricing

MetroFax charges $7.95 per month for 500 combined incoming and outgoing pages. This comes out to two cents per page, which is cheaper than the pricing for most of the services we've reviewed. MetroFax offers a prepayment discount of $79.50 per year, which comes out to $6.63 a month. This represents a savings of 16.7%. Overage charges for this service are relatively low at three cents per page, compared to many other services at 10 cents per page. MetroFax offers a 30 day free trial period.

Customer Support

MetroFax offers phone support, FAQs, video tutorials, a knowledge base, email support, and user guides. Phone customer support is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST. During testing, we experienced no wait times between calling customer support and talking to a representative. Customer support is highly knowledgable and immediately had answers to all of our test questions.
