Conclusion:

If you want a local fax number, GreenFax is a decent online fax service. GreenFax offers local numbers in 31 states. GreenFax also offers (866) and (877) numbers, but their toll-free number plans come with 200 fewer incoming pages per month. The quality of faxes received with GreenFax is above average. GreenFax's customer support is knowledgeable. GreenFax does not offer a free trial for new customers to test their service.

Fax Number Options

GreenFax has local numbers available in 31 states as well as Washington D.C. When choosing your local number, you can select by area code and city. They also have (866) and (877) numbers available for the same price, but you get 200 fewer free incoming pages per month. They do not let you port a number in or out with their service.

Sending and Receiving Faxes

We found the quality of the faxes received with GreenFax to be above average. They let you fax up to nine documents at once and the number of recipients you can send a fax to depends on your email client. They do not allow you to preview your fax before you send it or schedule the delivery of your faxes. They offer unlimited online fax storage, which far exceeds the 30 days most typical online fax services offer. Their service is Mac-compatible, and they allow you to send and receive faxes using up to five email addresses.

Pricing

The monthly fee for their Signature plan is $12.95 and comes with 250 free incoming pages and 100 free outgoing pages. Their price per page is four cents, which is slightly more expensive than what many other services we've reviewed charge. The incoming overage pages cost only three cents, and the outgoing overage pages cost seven cents for pages that take longer than 90 seconds to transmit and five cents for pages that take less than 90 seconds to transmit. This is much cheaper than the 10 cents overage rates typical of other services we've reviewed. GreenFax does not offer a free trial period.

Customer Support

GreenFax's customer service includes FAQ, phone, and email support. Their phone customer support hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, and they have no wait times. We found their customer support team to be knowlegeable, as they were able to answer all of our questions.
